The checklist every family
should understand first.
For students who intend to return and practise modern medicine in India, the foreign program must satisfy the applicable Indian regulatory framework. Requirements can change, so always verify the latest NMC notices before paying fees.

54+ months
Medical education must have a minimum duration of 54 months.

12-month internship
Internship must be completed at the same foreign medical institution under the FMGL framework.

English medium
The medium of instruction for the medical course must be English.

Single-country clinical training
Clinical training must not be split across different countries; verify the entire pathway before admission.

Required subjects & clinical exposure
Theory, practical and clinical training must cover the subjects and competencies required under FMGL.

Local licence eligibility
The qualification must make the graduate eligible for registration/licensure to practise medicine in the country where the degree is awarded.

NEET requirement
Indian/OCI students taking admission abroad must satisfy the applicable NEET eligibility requirement; NMC states NEET result serves as the eligibility certificate for the prescribed period.

FMGE / applicable licensing route
For current foreign UG registration, NMC states Indian/OCI graduates must qualify FMGE, complete applicable CRMI and obtain State Medical Council registration.
Important: “NMC approved university” can be misleading.
NMC states that it does not endorse a list of foreign medical institutions/universities. Students should verify the actual course and institution directly and check current NMC advisories. Special caution is required for program structures such as the Philippines BS + MD pathway for post-18 Nov 2021 admissions, and NMC has issued alerts naming certain institutions in Belize and Uzbekistan.
